THE OUTPOURING OF THE SPIRIT
Dear Parishioners,
The apostles were told by Jesus to await the coming of the advocate that he would send once he returned to the Father. This advocate would remind them of all that he had taught them. There was no mention of how this would happen, they were only told to wait in the city.
Like the apostles, we have been waiting for this advocate to come and teach us and remind us of all we were taught about Jesus. In our moments of social distancing and everything online, we have been waiting for a return to former ways and practices of our ordinary lives.
Now the time has arrived to return to the ordinary practice of celebrating our life in Christ as a community of faith. Our online Masses, while providing a necessary service for so many people, were not an ideal way to celebrate the Holy Eucharist. Now I wonder what our first Mass together will be like.
I await the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to be our advocate, and to lead us in the ways of faith and remind us of all that Jesus said and did. Most important, that he said he would not leave us orphans. We will celebrate the gift of his presence in the Holy Eucharist this weekend for the first time in many weeks. I do not know if there will be the rushing of wind, or tongues of fire descending upon us this Pentecost, but I believe that his Spirit will be upon us.
We have done everything possible to prepare for our opening that will keep us all safe. I rely on your prayers, support and cooperation with the directives that have been put in place. The rest is in the hands of God.
Please read the directives and guidelines that have been put in place for everyone’s safety. And please call the office to let us know what Mass you plan to attend.
May God continue to bless the good work He has begun is us and bring it to completion.
Father Gagne
