Through the Years

Over the years, this program has grown into a true family. Here are some highlights from our journey together since 2008.

2008

Autism & the Sacraments begins at St. Peter’s, a one-of-a-kind program in the Diocese of Providence.

2009

National recognition: an Associated Press story about our class is shared across the country, even in Hawaii!

2012

Our Sunday Visitor features the program, and Bishop Tobin visits each classroom to meet our teachers, students and families.

2013

Our first Confirmation: Bishop Tobin confirms eight students on Pentecost Eve.

2016

By 2016, thirty students had received First Communion and sixteen had been Confirmed.

2019

Our 11th year. Many former students return for the Advent Mass, shining examples for those who follow in their footsteps.

Today

Our program continues to welcome new families each fall, with classes every other Saturday from October to April. To learn more or to volunteer, call Margaret Andreozzi at 401.461.5691, ext. 128.

Since the fall of 2008, St. Peter’s has offered Autism & the Sacraments as part of our Faith Formation program.

Our approach to faith formation is peaceful, welcoming & innovative – adapting to each child’s individual learning style – in a compassionate, loving & inclusive environment. The program is tailored to children on the autism spectrum, those with developmental delay(s), and children who are non-verbal.

The response to this one-of-a-kind program in the Diocese of Providence has been wonderful – families from every corner of RI & beyond have enrolled!

Each year we celebrate beautiful Masses with our Autism & the Sacraments families:

  • Opening Mass – fall

  • Mass of Peace – winter

  • Closing Mass – spring
